Theo J. Mertzimekis is an Associate Professor of Nuclear
Physics in the Department of Physics at the National and Kapodistrian
University of Athens, Greece.
He completed his undergraduate studies in Physics (BSc)
from the University of Ioannina (Greece) beforing moving to Rutgers, The State
University of New Jersey
(USA) where he graduated with a MSc and a PhD degree in
Physics. He has worked as a Research Associate at the National Superconducting
Cyclotron Laboratory in Michigan State University, the University of Ioannnina
and the Tandem Accelerator Laboratory in NCSR "Demokritos".
His main research interests include experimental
investigations of nuclear matter, focusing mostly on the electromagnetic
properties of unstable isotopes, as well as nuclear astrophysics and a wide
range of applications of nuclear radiations. He has long experience working
with large scale instrumentation at international facilities (such as NSCL,
ISOLDE, GANIL, GSI/FAIR, Berkeley Lab and more), being a member of world-class
research collaborations and scientific societies. He has a strong teaching
record and has received various distinctions for his work over the years,
including an Academy of Athens award in Experimental Physics. He is the
Coordinator of various national and international research projects and serves
as an Editor, a Reviewer and Advisory Board Member in high-ranking
peer-reviewed journals.
